A Pastors passion: Go and make disciples
October 8, 2008 by Cornerstone
I want to welcome everyone that is reading my first blog. It is my purpose and intention that through this I can convey my heart and passion in a way different way from what most everyone sees from a sermon. I hope you enjoy it enough to not be ashamed to tell others about this blog.
I have recently had my passion stirred once again. Everyone of us have something within us that is very powerful, it is passion. Many need their passion redirected or they need it to be stirred. I am excited about what God is currently doing and what he is planning to do at Cornerstone Life. The stage that we are at right now is not the most glamorous, however while that may be the case it is the most important. Pieces are falling into place and roles are starting to be defined. The next part is a challenge and very straightforward, I tell you that so you will be warned before you read further.
Listen to me as I write this, because I write this with love. But above all else I am stating this because I love God. I am not interested in trying to play games, I am not interested in trying to look like a conventional church, I do not care about trying to maintain some status quo. I could care less about church politics or some form of pious religion. I care about the message and Gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to get Jesus off of our walls with symbols and get him into our hearts. My leaders at this church may lack a lot of things, but one thing that they will not lack is passion. Our goals will be the same as will our vision. There is too much work to be done to be concerned about weather someone is in line with our philosophy or theology. I will make it very simple, if you want to be part of a growing community that is fervent about the advancement of the message of Jesus then praise the Lord. You are right where you belong.
One final thing I would like to add is this. Ask yourself this question, Does the church growth movement “Christianize” worldly strategies. Do we use culture to advance the kingdom of God. I say absolutely. I will go as far as to say that we even need to use gimmicks. A gimmick is getting someone to come to your church other than the main reason they should be coming to church. Well how do we look at that theologically? We must use Jesus as an example. Jesus used gimmicks. Did people come to Jesus because he was the savior or because he could heal. The healing was just a physical problem but ultimately Jesus wanted to heal them spiritually. Did Jesus want to be known as just a healer or as their savior. Its time to get creative and do what He has called us to do. I am talking to you my brothers and sisters at Cornerstone Life. Let me ask you. Are you ready to go and make disciples? Our time is now.
